Our client, a blue-chip multinational healthcare manufacturer based in Galway, now seeks a Microbiology Lab Manager who will lead a small team of microbiologists while managing the day to day activities of the Micro lab in a cGMP, FDA regulated environment. This is a permanent role.
The successful candidate will consult on quality and microbiological issues, support problem solving and resolution, and provide quality management advice and counsel to customers for related laboratory testing needs.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role i.e. maintain regulatory compliance through established programs for lab testing, environmental control, training, SOP's, technical investigations, test method validation and cleaning in a pharmaceutical regulated environment.
Responsibilities of Microbiology Lab Manager:
Oversee microbiological analysis on raw material, in-process and finished product samples, as per relevant test procedures.
Lead analytical procedures include bioburden, bacterial endotoxin, environmental and water monitoring and microbial identification.
Final review and approval of laboratory results, protocols, reports, SOP's etc.
Provide technical guidance/ trouble shooting in the event of equipment failure, NCEs or out of specification results.
Leads laboratory projects for continuous improvement within the laboratory.
Be responsible for calibration and use of laboratory instrumentation, including troubleshooting equipment when problems arise.
Oversee the preparation and review of area documentation (SOP's, reports).
Ensure documentation associated with microbiology results is completed in a timely manner.
Lead the training & development of micro analysts.
Selection and recruitment of microbiology staff in conjunction with HR.
Conduct performance reviews of direct report.
Requirements of Microbiology Lab Manager:
Honours Bachelors Degree in Microbiology or associated Life Science discipline.
5+ years microbiology work experience, ideally the majority of which in a FDA regulated environment.
2 years team lead / people management experience in microbiology testing within the laboratory is highly desirable.
Experienced in lead the training & development of micro analysts.
Experienced in the calibration and use of laboratory instrumentation, including troubleshooting equipment when problems arise.
Budgetary management experience is preferred.
