Medical device company opens new facility in Galway

A biomedical company in Galway has announced the opening of its new facility at Ballybrit Business Park, located in the centre of the city's medical device ecosystem.

Galway Biomedical Limited works in the development and contract manufacturing of medical devices. It will use the new facility to develop and manufacture components for vascular, dental, orthopaedic, urology and general surgery clinical fields.

Dara Calleary, Minister for Rural and Community Development, officially carried out the ribbon cutting ceremony.

"This announcement from Galway Biomedical is a great boost to Galway and Ireland," Mr Calleary said.

"This is particularly good news for the west of Ireland where we are now well established as leaders in the life sciences sector and have a reputation for excellence and innovation. However, we will never take this for granted and will continue to work hard to bring the best investment to all parts of the country."

Conan Campbell, chief executive and founder of Galway Biomedical, said the new facility marked a significant milestone for the company.

"We now plan to accelerate our growth momentum by significantly expanding our team, capacity, and capability," he said. "We look forward to serving new customers and welcoming new team members to our world-class facility."

Galway Biomedical recently closed a series A investment round, with backers including the Western Development Commission, Enterprise Ireland and private medical device veteran investors.
