Director of Medical Affairs, Global role
Due to rapid growth our client, a clinical-stage Biotech company, now have approval to hire a Director of Medical Affairs on a permanent basis. This is a hands-on role, requiring a candidate with a strategic mindset who will lead the Medical Affairs organisation while supporting all other functions (i.e., Development, Clinical, Market Access, Commercial, etc.) in a small and agile team, focused on late-stage development of their Neuroscience pipeline.

This hire based in either Ireland or the UK, and required to travel (circa 30%) to congresses (inl. US travel), company meetings, etc.

The successful candidate will develop and execute a global medical affairs strategy and related tactics, aligned with overall product and R&D strategy and in consultation with the Leadership team. Also, this hire will establish strong relationships with all relevant external parties including KOLs, patient organisations, etc. This will initially be a standalone role.

This role requires a highly qualified candidate (M.D., PharmD., PhD) with depth of Medical Affairs experience working at Director level, in an above country role, within Pharma or Biotech industry.

This hire will be experienced in developing and executing the medical affairs and scientific communication plan as a medical affairs leader within their current or previous organisation. Ideally, this person will have an established global KOL network in Neuroscience and experience in bring product through late-stage development to launch.

Responsibilities of Director of Medical Affairs:
Develop strategy and build out the medical affairs team appropriately to the development, market access and commercial strategy.
Deliver scientific and medical input on the CDP and drive the development of an evidence generation plan including value adding evidence needs beyond regulatory endpoints.
Drive the development of a Scientific Communications Platform and the execution of scientific communication and educational initiatives.
Provide input to Health Economic data needs and market access plan.
Acting as a company representative with external scientific leaders/physicians, patient organizations and regulatory authorities.
Establish strategic world-wide partnerships with centers of excellence and thought leaders in the therapy areas.
Identify data and insight gaps and define strategies and tactics to address these gaps proactively using a diverse selection of appropriate methods to generate insights and data (e.g., advisory boards, scientific data generation efforts, other).
Ensure that the treatment value is articulated in a scientific way in the framework of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) discussion.
Establish close collaboration with Patient and Carer organisations.
Support medical review of material.

Requirements for Director of Medical Affairs:
MD, PharmD or PhD, ideally with CNS disease experience.
5+ years’ experience in international or global leadership role in medical affairs in the pharmaceutical industry.
Experience from the dynamic environment in smaller Biopharma is a strong benefit.
Proven experience of the overall drug development process, as well as of health economy and access considerations and principles.
Track record of success in building and leading a KOL network internationally, ideally in CNS.
National and international launch experience.
Proven leadership abilities with experience in building out a team and people management.
Excellent external stakeholders’ management abilities.
Strong sense of ownership, autonomy, diligence and ability to execute on a strategic plan.
Excellent negotiation, presentation and communication skills.
