Ireland is the world’s third largest exporter of pharmaceuticals, according to the United Nations Statistics Division database. The sector continues to evolve, expanding its capabilities to include innovation, digitalisation and next-generation technologies:
▪️ 8 of top 10 pharmaceutical companies have substantial operations in Ireland.
▪️ In May 2024, NIBRT National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training opened a new €21m facility dedicated to research and training in Advanced Therapeutics, with support from IDA Ireland.
▪️ 100+ biopharmaceutical plants located in Ireland, the majority of which are FDA approved.
▪️ 57% of employees in the biopharma sector are third level graduates. The sector is the highest employer of PhD graduates: 25% of all PhD graduates in Ireland are employed in the industry
